We are a not-for-profit agency

As a local authority, we are a not-for-profit agency, it’s the children in our care who benefit most from what we do. A large proportion of our resources goes directly towards helping our children find the right fostering placements and providing our foster carers with the right training and support.

We offer regular placements

We’re responsible for all the children in care in Bath and North East Somerset. As a general rule, we will place children with our in-house carers first. Our carers usually have one or more children living with them all year round.

Having children placed with you on a regular basis means you can rely on the regular payments and allowances that we give to all of our carers

We train and support our carers

Being a foster carer is a hugely rewarding experience, but it does come with some challenges. We offer training and support for our carers to help guide them through their fostering journey with us.
The training and support we offer includes:

First Aid, Child Protection, Safe Care and Therapeutic Parenting
A dedicated Child Psychologist in our team to support foster carers

We keep in touch

We appreciate that being a foster carer can be challenging. We make sure that we keep in regular touch with our carers while you’re fostering with us.

If you foster with us, we will provide:

regular social events for you and your family to meet other foster carers
events for your birth children, as important members of your foster family
a newsletter every month, providing information on news, events, training and local discounts

We offer competitive rates of pay, rewards and discounts

If you decide to become a foster carer with us, you will receive a competitive weekly allowance for each child or young person. This is paid fortnightly.

We make independent agency transfers easy

As a local authority, we deal with the transfer process and protocol regularly. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to transfer from an independent agency to becoming a foster carer with a local authority.

The process is slightly different if you already have a child in your care, but there is no reason for the child not to remain with you during the transfer process. We will provide guidance and support throughout the transfer.
